And thanks to funding from the National Lottery, they have organized a fantastic day of family fun to be held in Place Houstoun from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to the live broadcasts from the bandstand, there will be face painting, two vintage fire trucks, live music from Zoe Tait The Ladybugg, Adam Dolan, Shaun Hamilton as Elvis and performances. from the Ashley Gardner School of Dance.

Volunteer Kevin McLaughlin said, “We are all volunteers doing various jobs, nobody cares.

“The station was created by Alex Kerr and Andy McCrory.

“We want to promote the station and let people know that it is there and what we are doing.

“Right now it’s online and the plan is ultimately to be a digital station.

“We continued throughout the lockdown.

“We were supported by Arnold Clark and the National Lottery also gave us funds to help organize this day.”

Sunday’s event is the first the station is hosting, but they hope it will be a success and lead to more.

The station broadcasts a wide selection of music, news and community radio productions, including Sunday Mass live from St Margaret’s Church and local football live.

Kevin said he enjoyed being involved and that they hoped to get more people to volunteer to run the station.

He said: “I was browsing Facebook last year and came across Johnstone Sound so I emailed them. At first I thought I would do some fundraising because I have organized charity events before.

“I love music and I’ve also worked on radio before and I’m a boy from Johnstone, born and raised here. I wanted to help so I’m presenting a show now and I’m on the committee.

“I wanted to do something for the community. I’ve really enjoyed it so far, it’s absolutely awesome.

“We have a lot of followers but we are always looking for presenters for the morning or afternoon shows.”

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. this Sunday and everyone is welcome to attend.
