New project for YO1 Radio studio and York Roast Co

A YORK radio station has teamed up with a popular city food company for a brand new project in the station’s new studio.

YO1 Radio’s town center station, which is located in Goodramgate, was the original location of The York Roast Co, which now has stores in the adjacent Low Petergate and Stonegate – as well as other locations. from the country.

In recent times the property has been used as a traditional barber shop, but now, under a new partnership agreement, part of the premises has been converted to provide a downtown studio for YO1 Radio, the rest of the property to revert to being a takeout or dinner and a delivery hub for The York Roast Co related to the core business.

Wayne Chadwick, Managing Director of The York Roast Company and YO1 Radio, said: “There have been tough times lately for all local businesses, and we need to find new ways to make sure we can maintain the vitality of our city center.

“We have been looking for the best use of what was, in effect, empty property for some time.

“The York Roast Co was looking for better ways to handle the delivery side of the business – something that increased dramatically during the recent lockdown – and the radio station was looking for a high profile presence in the city.

“We think we’ve found the perfect solution for both.”

Wayne took over management of the radio station with Dave Parker in March – and the new studio base is part of a substantial investment in the station, which resulted in the recent relaunch.

The new YO1 Radio “Live Lounge”, as it came to be, will be used to broadcast live programs as an alternative to the station’s main studios on Clifton Moor.

It will also be used as a more convenient place to conduct celebrity interviews, meet listeners and local representatives of civil society and business – and even has two large screens to promote both the radio station and the businesses. local.

An official opening by the Lord Mayor of York is planned.

“Having an independent studio in the heart of downtown would normally be prohibitively expensive – but partnering with The York Roast Co, along with our new display screens, will allow us to monetize the studio and bring additional interest. . to that part of the center, ”Wayne added.

YO1 Radio broadcasts in York on 102.8FM. It is available on Digital Radio throughout North Yorkshire.
