RIBA Launches New Radio Show on Diversity and Inclusion | New
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced that its second annual festival of inclusion will take the form of a dedicated radio station that will be broadcast live from the bookstore at RIBA’s headquarters in London.
RIBA Radio will run from November 18-26 and will be hosted by Marsha Ramroop, former BBC journalist and RIBA’s Director of Inclusion and Diversity. The exhibition will focus on promoting diversity and inclusion in the field of architecture. Content will include a mix of music, live and pre-recorded interviews, discussions and debates, featuring guests from the worlds of architecture, design, arts, culture and sport, as well as key leaders in the EDI worlds (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion).
Guests will include architects Adam Furman, Chris Hildrey, Farshid Moussavi, Clare Nash, Sumita Singha OBE, school principal and CEO of the London School of Architecture Dr. Neal Shasore, architectural historian Josh Mardell, the Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees, and more.
“Last November, the RIBA launched the Inclusion Charter, inviting members and firms to engage in actions to advance inclusion and diversity within the profession,” said Ramroop. “This year, we are using RIBA Radio as a platform to support this engagement with information, advice, best practices and ideas, through 28 hours of live radio. I’m excited to combine my two areas of expertise – broadcast journalism and EDI – to bring RIBA Radio to life and expand the reach of these important conversations.
During the seven-day period, the daily live broadcast will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (GMT) each day. Rehearsals will then be available from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and for an hour after that, a feature called My Soundtrack will occur. This hour-long segment will be moderated by a different guest presenter each day who will share personal stories related to the themes of diversity and inclusion, coupled with their choice of music.
RIBA Radio will be accessible via a link that will be sent to those who register on Eventbrite. Further information about the program, including the program and an organized list of architectural books written or edited by guests of RIBA Radio, can also be found here.
